The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No people ever went astray after being rightly guided except that they were given to argumentation." Then he recited this verse, "Rather, they are a contentious people" [Zukhruf 43:58].
حدثنا علي بن المنذر حدثنا محمد بن فضيل ح و حدثنا حوثرة بن محمد حدثنا محمد بن بشر قالا حدثنا حجاج بن دينار عن أبي غالب
قال رسول الله ﷺ ما ضل قوم بعد هدى كانوا عليه إلا أوتوا الجدل ثم تلا هذه الآية {بل هم قوم خصمون} الآية
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Tirmidhi narrated it in the tafsir chapter, section on Surah Zukhruf, no. 3253, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Bishr and others, and he said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith." Hakim graded it sahih, as did Dhahabi.
