He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution, then take a handful of water and sprinkle it over his private area.

[hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Purification, Chapter on Sprinkling Water, hadith 168, from the hadith of Mansur, through this route, and Hakim graded it sahih, as did Dhahabi.
