The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are only two things, speech and guidance. The best speech is the speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. Beware of newly invented matters, for the worst of matters are those newly invented, every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance.Do not let the time stretch long upon you, lest your hearts grow hard. What is coming is near, and only what is not coming is far. The wretched one is he who was wretched in his mother's womb, and the fortunate one is he who takes a lesson from others.Fighting a believer is disbelief and reviling him is grave disobedience, and it is not lawful for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three days.Beware of lying, for lying is fitting neither in seriousness nor in jest. A man should not promise his child something and then fail to fulfill it. Lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. It is said of the truthful one, 'He spoke the truth and acted righteously,' and it is said of the liar, 'He lied and acted wickedly.' A servant continues to lie until he is recorded with Allah as a habitual liar."
Its chain of transmission is daif. Ibn Abu Asim narrated it in Sunnah, no. 25, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Jafar in abbreviated form. Abu Ishaq is well known for tadlis, and he is a trustworthy taabi who used ambiguous transmission phrasing (Tabaqat al-Mudallisin by Hafiz Ibn Hajar, third rank), and here he uses "an" (indicating unclear transmission). Most of the wording of this hadith is sahih in other hadiths.
