The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah rejoices more at the Tawba of His servant than a man who loses his mount in a barren wilderness. He searches for it until, exhausted, he covers himself with his garment to rest. While he is in that state, he suddenly hears the footfall of his mount where he had lost it. He uncovers his face, and there it is, his very mount before him."
حدثنا سفيان بن وكيع حدثنا أبي عن فضيل بن مرزوق عن عطية
قال رسول الله ﷺ لله أفرح بتوبة عبده من رجل أضل راحلته بفلاة من الأرض فالتمسها حتى إذا أعيى تسجى بثوبه فبينا هو كذلك إذ سمع وجبة الراحلة حيث فقدها فكشف الثوب عن وجهه فإذا هو براحلته
[Its chain is daif] Ahmad related it, 3/83, from the hadith of Fudayl, through him, and Busiri graded it daif. See also numbers 37 and 778 for its two defects. The basis of the hadith has a corroborating witness in Bukhari, no. 6308, and Muslim, no. 2744, and others besides them.
