The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to order us to give charity, so one of us would go and exert himself until he could bring even a single mudd. Yet today, some of them possess a hundred thousand.Shaqiq remarked that it was as if he was alluding to himself.
حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن نمير وأبو كريب قالا حدثنا أبو أسامة عن زائدة عن الأعمش عن شقيق
كان رسول الله ﷺ يأمر بالصدقة فينطلق أحدنا يتحامل حتى يجيء بالمد وإن لأحدهم اليوم مائة ألف قال شقيق كأنه يعرض بنفسه
Bukhari narrated it, Zakat, chapter "Be wary of the fire, even by giving half a date, and giving a small amount in charity," Hadiths: 1415, 1416, and others, and Muslim, Zakat, chapter "Carrying a load for wages and giving it in charity, and the severe prohibition against belittling one who gives a small amount in charity," Hadith: 72/1018, from the hadith of Amash with the same chain, with differing wordings.
