Umar bin Khattab reported,

I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was on a reed mat. I sat down, and I noticed he was wearing only a waist-wrapper, nothing else. The mat had left marks on his side. I saw a handful of barley, about a saa in measure, and some tanning leaves in a corner of the room, and a hide hanging up. My eyes welled with tears.He asked, "What makes you weep, son of Khattab?"I replied, "Prophet of Allah, why should I not weep? This mat has left marks on your side, and this is your storeroom, in which I see nothing but what I see. Meanwhile Khosrau and Caesar live amid fruits and flowing rivers, while you are the Prophet of Allah and His chosen one, and this is your storeroom."He said, "Son of Khattab, are you not pleased that the Hereafter should be ours and this world theirs?"I said, "Of course."

حدثني عمر بن الخطاب قال

دخلت على رسول الله ﷺ وهو على حصير قال فجلست فإذا عليه إزار وليس عليه غيره وإذا الحصير قد أثر في جنبه وإذا أنا بقبضة من شعير نحو الصاع وقرظ في ناحية في الغرفة وإذا إهاب معلق فابتدرت عيناي فقال ما يبكيك يا ابن الخطاب فقلت يا نبي الله ومالي لا أبكي وهذا الحصير قد أثر في جنبك وهذه خزانتك لا أرى فيها إلا ما أرى وذلك كسرى وقيصر في الثمار والأنهار وأنت نبي الله وصفوته وهذه خزانتك قال يا ابن الخطاب ألا ترضى أن تكون لنا الآخرة ولهم الدنيا قلت بلى
