One morning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke of the Dajjal. He made light of him and then made much of him, until we thought he was there among the clump of palm trees. When we came back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ later in the day, he saw the effect of it in us.He asked, "What is the matter with you?"We said, "Messenger of Allah, this morning you spoke of the Dajjal. You made light of him and then made much of him, until we thought he was there among the clump of palm trees."He said, "It is not the Dajjal I fear most for you. If he comes out while I am among you, I will contend with him on your behalf. If he comes out when I am no longer among you, then each man must contend for himself, and Allah is my successor over every Muslim. He is a young man with tightly curled hair and a protruding eye. I would liken him to Abdul-Uzza bin Qatan. Whoever among you sees him should recite over him the opening verses of Surah Kahf. He will come out from a pass between Syria and Iraq, and he will wreak havoc to the right and wreak havoc to the left. Servants of Allah, hold firm."We said, "Messenger of Allah, how long will he remain on the earth?"He said, "Forty days. One day like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of his days like your ordinary days."We said, "Messenger of Allah, on that day which is like a year, will one day's prayers be enough for us?"He said, "No, calculate the time for it."We said, "How fast will he move through the earth?"He said, "Like rain driven before the wind. He will come to a people and call them, and they will answer him and believe in him. He will command the sky to rain and it will rain, and he will command the earth to bring forth crops and it will bring them forth. Their grazing flocks will return to them in the evening with the highest humps, the fullest udders, and the broadest flanks. Then he will come to another people and call them, and they will reject what he says, so he will turn away from them, and they will wake up in drought with nothing left in their hands. Then he will pass by a ruin and say to it, 'Bring out your treasures,' and he will move on and its treasures will follow him like swarms of bees. Then he will summon a man in the fullness of his youth and strike him with a sword, cutting him into two pieces as far apart as an archer's target. Then he will call him, and the man will come forward with his face beaming and laughing."While they are in that state, Allah will send Isa bin Maryam. He will descend at the white minaret east of Damascus, wearing two lightly dyed garments, his palms resting on the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, water will drip from it, and when he raises it, drops like pearls will run down from it. No disbeliever who catches the scent of his breath will live, and his breath will reach as far as his sight reaches. He will pursue the Dajjal and overtake him at the gate of Ludd, and he will kill him."Then the Prophet of Allah, Isa, will come to a people whom Allah has protected. He will wipe their faces and tell them of their ranks in Paradise. While they are in that state, Allah will reveal to him, 'Isa, I have brought out servants of Mine whom no one has the power to fight, so take My servants to safety on Tur.' Allah will send out Yajuj and Majuj, and they will be as Allah said, 'streaming down from every height' [Anbiya 21:96]. The first of them will pass by the lake of Tiberias and drink all that is in it, and the last of them will pass by and say, 'There was water here once.'"The Prophet of Allah and his companions will be besieged until the head of an ox will be worth more to one of them than a hundred dinar is worth to one of you today. So the Prophet of Allah, Isa, and his companions will turn to Allah in earnest supplication, and Allah will send a plague of worms into their necks, and by morning they will be lying dead like a single soul that has perished. The Prophet of Allah, Isa, and his companions will come down and will not find a hand's span of ground that is not filled with their stench and rot and blood. So they will turn to Allah in earnest supplication, and He will send birds with necks like the necks of Bactrian camels, which will carry them away and cast them wherever Allah wills. Then Allah will send down a rain from which no house of clay or of hide will give shelter, and it will wash the earth until it leaves it smooth as a mirror."Then it will be said to the earth, 'Bring forth your fruit and restore your blessing.' On that day a band of people will eat from a single pomegranate and be satisfied by it, and they will shelter in the shade of its rind. Allah will bless the milk-giving animals, so that one she-camel will suffice a large gathering of people, one cow will suffice a tribe, and one ewe will suffice a clan."While they are in that state, Allah will send a pleasant wind that will take them beneath their armpits and seize the soul of every Muslim. The rest of the people will remain, coupling openly as donkeys couple, and upon them the Hour will come."
