She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "An army will set out intending to attack this House. When they reach a desert plain, the middle of them will be swallowed up by the earth. The first of them will call out to the last, and then they too will be swallowed up. None of them will remain except a lone survivor who will report what happened to them."When the army of Hajjaj came, we thought they were the ones meant. A man then said, "I bear witness that you did not lie about Hafsah, and that Hafsah did not lie about the Prophet ﷺ."
[Sahih] Nasai narrated it in the Book of the Rites of Hajj, chapter on the Sanctity of the Sacred Precinct, no. 2883, from the hadith of Sufyan through the same chain. Hakim graded it sahih (4/429, 430), as did Dhahabi. It is also found in Sahih Muslim (4/2209, 2210), Book of Tribulations, chapter on the Army Being Swallowed Up by the Earth While Marching Toward the House, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna through the same chain, with a slight difference. No. 2883.
