The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Jews split into seventy-one sects, and my nation will split into seventy-three sects."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا محمد بن بشر حدثنا محمد بن عمرو عن أبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ تفرقت اليهود على إحدى وسبعين فرقة وتفترق أمتي على ثلاث وسبعين فرقة
Its isnad is hasan. Abu Dawud reported it in the Book of Sunnah, chapter "Explanation of the Sunnah," hadith no. 4596, through Muhammad bin Amr, with this chain. Tirmidhi reported it, hadith no. 2640, and said it is hasan sahih. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith no. 1834, as did Hakim (1/128), who said it meets the criteria of Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
