The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The truest word ever spoken by a poet is the saying of Labid, 'Indeed, everything besides Allah is vain.' And Umaya bin Ubayy al-Salt nearly became a Muslim."
حدثنا محمد بن الصباح حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن عبد الملك بن عمير عن أبي سلمة

Bukhari narrated it in the Virtues of the Ansar, chapter on the Days of Ignorance, no. 6489 and 3841, and Muslim narrated it in the Poetry chapter, in the section on reciting poems and clarifying the most poetic saying and the condemnation of poetry, no. 2256, both from the hadith of Abdul-Malik through this route. Ibn Uyayna heard it from Zaida from Abdul-Malik through this route, in Muslim, no. 4/2256.
