Sourcing, hasan. Bayhaqi related it, 8/168, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Sabbah, with this same wording. Busiri graded it daif because of Saeed bin Muslimah. It has corroborating narrations, among them what Hakim related, 4/292, from the hadith of Mabad bin Khalid Ansari, from his father, from Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari, who attributed it to the Prophet, "...so if a noble person from a people comes to him, let him honor him." Hakim said, its chain is sahih.
