Some water was brought for him to perform ablution, and a cat came and began to drink from it. He tilted the vessel toward her so she could drink. I kept looking at him, and he said, "Niece, are you surprised? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'It is not impure. It is among those who go around among you,'" or, "'those females who go around among you.'"

ماء يتوضأ به فجاءت هرة تشرب فأصغى لها الإناء فجعلت أنظر إليه فقال يا ابنة أخي أتعجبين قال رسول الله ﷺ إنها ليست بنجس هي من الطوافين أو الطوافات
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Purification, Chapter on the Leftover Water of a Cat, no. 75, from the hadith of Malik through this route. Tirmidhi graded it sahih, no. 92, as did Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, Bukhari, Daraqutni, Hakim, Dhahabi, and others.
