The Negus sent the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a piece of jewelry containing a gold ring set with an Abyssinian stone. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ picked it up with a stick, turning his face away from it, or with one of his fingers. Then he called for his granddaughter Umama, daughter of Ubayy al-As, and said, "Adorn yourself with this, my dear."
[Its chain of transmission is hasan]. Abu Dawud narrated it in the chapter on the ring, in the section on what has been said about gold for women, hadith no. 4235, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Ishaq, through this route. It is also found in the Musannaf, 8/277, 278.
