I asked Abdullah bin Abu Awfa about the meat of domestic donkeys. He said, "Famine struck us on the day of Khaybar while we were with the Prophet ﷺ. The people had captured some donkeys outside Madinah, so we slaughtered them, and our pots were boiling when the Prophet's ﷺ caller announced, 'Turn the pots upside down and do not eat anything from the meat of donkeys.' So we turned them over."I asked Abdullah bin Abu Awfa, "Did he forbid them absolutely?"He replied, "We discussed among ourselves that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade them outright because they feed on filth."
