The Prophet ﷺ said, "Every boy is held in pledge by his aqiqah, which is to be slaughtered for him on the seventh day, when his head is shaved and he is given a name."
حدثنا هشام بن عمار حدثنا شعيب بن إسحق حدثنا سعيد بن أبي عروبة عن قتادة عن الحسن
عن النبي ﷺ قال كل غلام مرتهن بعقيقته تذبح عنه يوم السابع ويحلق رأسه ويسمى
[Hasan]. Abu Dawud narrated it in "The Sacrifices," chapter on aqiqah, no. 2838, from the hadith of Saeed with this wording. Tirmidhi (no. 1522) said it was hasan sahih. Ibn Jarud (no. 910), Hakim (4/237), Dhahabi, Abdull-Haq Ishbili, and others graded it sahih. Shuba bin Hajjaj narrated it from Qatada with this wording, as found in Ahmad and others. The hadith of Hasan from Samura is sahih, as mentioned previously, no. 2183.
