The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stop at Wadi Namirah in Arafah. When Hajjaj killed Ibn Zubayr, he sent word to Ibn Umar asking, "At what time did the Prophet ﷺ set out on this day?"Ibn Umar replied, "When that time comes, we will set out."So Hajjaj sent a man to watch and see at what hour Ibn Umar would depart.When Ibn Umar was about to set out, he asked, "Has the sun passed its zenith?"They said, "It has not passed yet."So he sat down. Then he asked again, "Has the sun passed its zenith?"They said, "It has not passed yet."So he sat down. Then he asked, "Has the sun passed its zenith?"They said, "It has not passed yet."So he sat down. Then he asked, "Has the sun passed its zenith?"They said, "Yes."When they said it had passed, he set out.Waki said, meaning, he departed.
حدثنا علي بن محمد وعمرو بن عبد الله قالا حدثنا وكيع أنبأنا نافع بن عمر الجمحي عن سعيد بن حسان
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان ينزل بعرفة في وادي نمرة قال فلما قتل الحجاج ابن الزبير أرسل إلى ابن عمر أي ساعة كان النبي ﷺ يروح في هذا اليوم قال إذا كان ذلك رحنا فأرسل الحجاج رجلا ينظر أي ساعة يرتحل فلما أراد ابن عمر أن يرتحل قال أزاغت الشمس قالوا لم تزغ بعد فجلس ثم قال أزاغت الشمس قالوا لم تزغ بعد فجلس ثم قال أزاغت الشمس قالوا لم تزغ بعد فجلس ثم قال أزاغت الشمس قالوا نعم فلما قالوا قد زاغت ارتحل قال وكيع يعني راح
Its isnad is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Hajj, chapter on setting out to Arafah, no. 1914, from the hadith of Waki, by this route.Saeed bin Hassan was deemed reliable by Ibn Hibban alone, but the basic content of the hadith has supporting evidence, including the hadith in Muslim, no. 1218, and others.
