I was a Christian man who embraced Islam. I entered the state of ihram intending both Hajj and Umrah together. Salman bin Rabia and Zayd bin Sawhan heard me as I was pronouncing the talbiyah for both at Qadisiyyah, and they said, "This man is more lost than his own camel." Their words felt as though a mountain had been placed upon me.I came to Umar bin Khattab and mentioned this to him. He turned to them and rebuked them, then turned to me and said, "You have been guided to the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. You have been guided to the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ."Hisham said in his version, Shaqiq said, "Masruq and I went to him many times to ask him about it."Ali bin Muhammad narrated to us, Waki, Abu Muawiya, and my maternal uncle Yala narrated to us, they said, Amash narrated to us from Shaqiq, from Sabi bin Mabad, who said, "I had recently left Christianity and embraced Islam. I spared no effort in striving, so I entered ihram for both Hajj and Umrah." He then mentioned a similar account.
Sahih. Humaydi narrated it (Hadith: 18, per my verification) from Sufyan bin Uyayna, who said, Abdah narrated to us from him, and it is also found in Juz Ibn Uyayna (folio 6). Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Hadith: 3899, 3900), as did Daraqutni and others. Abu Dawud narrated it (Hadith: 1798, 1799) and others as well, from the hadith of Mansur and others, from Abu Waail, with the same wording.
