We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intending nothing but Hajj. When we reached Sarif, or near Sarif, I began my menstrual period. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to see me while I was weeping.He asked, "What is the matter? Have you started your period?"I replied, "Yes."He said, "This is something Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam. So perform all the rites of the pilgrimage, except do not circumambulate the House."She said, on behalf of his wives, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed cows.
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة وعلي بن محمد قالا حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن عبد الرحمن بن القاسم عن أبيه
خرجنا مع رسول الله ﷺ لا نرى إلا الحج فلما كنا بسرف أو قريبا من سرف حضت فدخل علي رسول الله ﷺ وأنا أبكي فقال ما لك أنفست قلت نعم قال إن هذا أمر كتبه الله على بنات آدم فاقضي المناسك كلها غير أن لا تطوفي بالبيت قالت وضحى رسول الله ﷺ عن نسائه بالبقر
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Menstruation, Chapter on the Command to Women Experiencing Postpartum Bleeding When They Bleed, hadith 294, and others narrated it from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, with this wording. Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hajj, Chapter on Explaining the Forms of Ihram and That It Is Permissible to Perform Hajj Alone, Tamattu, or Qiran, etc., hadith 119/1211, from the hadith of Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, with this wording.
