The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to visit me while I was unwell and asked, "Do you not wish to perform Hajj this year?"I replied, "Messenger of Allah, I am sick."He said, "Perform Hajj, and say, 'My place of release is wherever You detain me.'"
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا محمد بن فضيل ووكيع عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
دخل علي رسول الله ﷺ وأنا شاكية فقال أما تريدين الحج العام قلت إني لعليلة يا رسول الله قال حجي وقولي محلي حيث تحبسني
Sourcing, [sahih] Tabarani narrated it, 24/336, 337, from the hadith of Ibn Abu Shayba by this route, and its chain is strong. Bukhari narrated it, no. 5089, and Muslim, no. 1207, and others, through Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha by this route. The hadith has many routes in Muslim and others, see the following hadith.
