The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Horses, in their forelocks is goodness," or he said, "Horses, goodness is tied to their forelocks." Suhayl said, "I am uncertain whether he said 'goodness until the Day of Resurrection.'""Horses are of three kinds. For one man they are a reward, for another they are a shield, and upon another they are a burden. As for the one for whom they are a reward, it is the man who keeps them for the cause of Allah and prepares them for it. Nothing disappears into their bellies without a reward being recorded for him. If he lets them graze in a meadow, they eat nothing without a reward being recorded for him. If he gives them to drink from a flowing river, he receives a reward for every drop that disappears into their bellies," until he even mentioned reward in their urine and dung. "And if they gallop a stretch or two, a reward is recorded for him for every step they take.As for the one for whom they are a shield, it is the man who keeps them out of dignity and as adornment, yet does not forget the rights owed to their backs and bellies in hardship and ease.As for the one upon whom they are a burden, it is the one who keeps them out of arrogance, conceit, extravagance, and showing off to people. Such a man bears them as a burden."
