I would prefer that people reduce bequests from a third to a quarter, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A third, and a third is substantial," or "considerable."
حدثنا علي بن محمد حدثنا وكيع عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
وددت أن الناس غضوا من الثلث إلى الربع لأن رسول الله ﷺ قال الثلث كبير أو كثير
Bukhari reported it in the chapters on bequests, chapter on bequeathing a third, hadith no. 2743, from the hadith of Hisham, and Muslim in the chapter on bequests, chapter on bequeathing a third, hadith no. 1629, from the hadith of Waki, with this wording.
