The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If he becomes drunk, lash him. If he does it again, lash him. If he does it again, lash him." Then he said on the fourth occurrence, "If he does it again, strike his neck."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا شبابة عن ابن أبي ذئب عن الحارث عن أبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا سكر فاجلدوه فإن عاد فاجلدوه فإن عاد فاجلدوه ثم قال في الرابعة فإن عاد فاضربوا عنقه
Takhrij, its isnad is sahih. Nasai narrated it in the Book of Drinks, in the section mentioning the severe reports concerning the drinking of wine, hadith no. 5665, from the hadith of Shababa. Abu Dawud also narrated it, hadith no. 4484, from the hadith of Ibn Abu Dhib. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, hadith no. 831, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith no. 1517, and Hakim, 4/371, according to the condition of Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him, marking it with the symbols for Bukhari and Muslim.
