I fear that as time passes, someone may say, "I do not find stoning in the Book of Allah," and they will go astray by abandoning an obligation that Allah has prescribed. Stoning is indeed a true penalty in the case of one who is married, when the evidence is established, or when there is pregnancy, or a confession. I have read it myself, "When the married man and the married woman commit adultery, stone them outright." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ carried out stoning, and we carried it out after him.
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة ومحمد بن الصباح قالا حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن عتبة عن ابن عباس قال
لقد خشيت أن يطول بالناس زمان حتى يقول قائل ما أجد الرجم في كتاب الله فيضلوا بترك فريضة من فرائض الله ألا وإن الرجم حق إذا أحصن الرجل وقامت البينة أو كان حمل أو اعتراف وقد قرأتها الشيخ والشيخة إذا زنيا فارجموهما البتة رجم رسول الله ﷺ ورجمنا بعده
Bukhari transmitted it in the Book of Hudud, chapter on confessing to zina, hadith 6829, from the hadith of Sufyan through this route, and Muslim transmitted it in the Book of Hudud, chapter on stoning a previously married person for zina, hadith 1691, from the hadith of Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba through this route.
