Suwayd bin Ghafla reported,

I set out with Zayd bin Sawhan and Salman bin Rabia, and when we reached al-Udhayb, I picked up a whip. They said to me, "Throw it away," but I refused.When we arrived in Madinah, I went to Ubayy bin Kaab and mentioned the matter to him.He said, "You did the right thing. I once found a hundred dinars during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I asked him about it.He said, 'Announce it for a year.'So I announced it, but I found no one who recognized it. I asked him again, and he said, 'Announce it.' I announced it, but still found no one who recognized it.Then he said, 'Take note of its container, its tie, and its count, then announce it for a year. If someone comes who recognizes it, give it to him. Otherwise, it is yours to use as your own property.'"

عن سويد بن غفلة قال

خرجت مع زيد بن صوحان وسلمان بن ربيعة حتى إذا كنا بالعذيب التقطت سوطا فقالا لي ألقه فأبيت فلما قدمنا المدينة أتيت أبي بن كعب فذكرت ذلك له فقال أصبت التقطت مائة دينار على عهد رسول الله ﷺ فسألته فقال عرفها سنة فعرفتها فلم أجد أحدا يعرفها فسألته فقال عرفها فعرفتها فلم أجد أحدا يعرفها فقال اعرف وعاءها ووكاءها وعددها ثم عرفها سنة فإن جاء من يعرفها وإلا فهي كسبيل مالك
