By Allah, I know this hadith better than he does. What actually happened was that two men came to the Prophet ﷺ after they had fought with one another, and he said, "If this is how you behave, then do not lease out farmland." Rafi bin Khadij only heard his words, "Do not lease out farmland."

أنا والله أعلم بالحديث منه إنما أتى رجلان النبي ﷺ وقد اقتتلا فقال إن كان هذا شأنكم فلا تكروا المزارع فسمع رافع بن خديج قوله فلا تكروا المزارع
[Its isnad is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Trade, Chapter on Sharecropping, no. 3390, from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Ishaq, through this route.Abu Ubayda was deemed reliable by Ibn Main and others, and his being deemed reliable is the stronger view. Walid was deemed reliable by Abu Zura, Ajli, Ibn Shahin, and others.
