He used to lease out a piece of land of his for cultivation. Then a man came to him and told him that Rafi bin Khadij had reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden the leasing of farmland. So Ibn Umar set out, and I went with him, until he came to him at al-Balat and asked him about it. He informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden the leasing of farmland, so Abdullah gave up leasing it out.

أنه كان يكري أرضا له مزارعا فأتاه إنسان فأخبره عن رافع بن خديج أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن كراء المزارع فذهب ابن عمر وذهبت معه حتى أتاه بالبلاط فسأله عن ذلك فأخبره أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن كراء المزارع فترك عبد الله كراءها
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Business Transactions, Chapter on Leasing Land, hadith 1547, from the hadith of Ubaydullah bin Umar with this wording. Bukhari mentioned it in passing (muallaq), hadith 2286, in abridged form. Bukhari narrated it, hadith 2286 and 2344, and Muslim and others narrated it through various chains from Nafi with this wording.
