His father carried him to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Bear witness that I have given Numan such and such from my property as a gift."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Have you given each of your sons the same as you have given Numan?"He replied, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then have someone other than me bear witness to this."Then he asked, "Would it not please you that they all treat you with equal kindness?"He answered, "Yes, indeed."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then do not do this."
حدثنا أبو بشر بكر بن خلف حدثنا يزيد بن زريع عن داود بن أبي هند عن الشعبي
انطلق به أبوه يحمله إلى النبي ﷺ فقال اشهد أني قد نحلت النعمان من مالي كذا وكذا قال فكل بنيك نحلت مثل الذي نحلت النعمان قال لا قال فأشهد على هذا غيري قال أليس يسرك أن يكونوا لك في البر سواء قال بلى قال فلا إذا
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on gifts, their merit, and encouragement to give them, section on gifting to a child, hadith 2587, 2650, and Muslim in the chapter on gifts, section on the disapproval of favoring some children over others in gifting, hadith 1623, from the hadith of Amir Shaybi through this same chain.
