The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you dispute about the width of a road, make it seven cubits."
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى ومحمد بن عمر بن هياج قالا حدثنا قبيصة حدثنا سفيان عن سماك عن عكرمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا اختلفتم في الطريق فاجعلوه سبعة أذرع
[Sahih] Ahmad reported it, 1/235, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri, with this wording, and Sharik Nakhai corroborated him despite his use of "an", and Busiri graded it sahih. See 171/17 for its defect. The hadith has corroborating reports in Muslim, no. 1613, and elsewhere.
