Amr bin Maymun reported,

Zirr said, "I never missed visiting Ibn Masud on a Thursday evening without going to see him." He said, "I never once heard him say, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said.'"Then one evening he said, "The Messenger of Allah said," then ﷺ he lowered his head. Zirr said, "I looked at him, and there he stood with the buttons of his shirt undone, his eyes brimming with tears and the veins of his neck swollen." Then he said, "Or something less than that, or more than that, or close to that, or similar to that."

عن عمرو بن ميمون قال

ما أخطأني ابن مسعود عشية خميس إلا أتيته فيه قال فما سمعته يقول بشيء قط قال رسول الله ﷺ فلما كان ذات عشية قال قال رسول الله قال ﷺ فنكس قال فنظرت إليه فهو قائم محللة أزرار قميصه قد اغرورقت عيناه وانتفخت أوداجه قال أو دون ذلك أو فوق ذلك أو قريبا من ذلك أو شبيها بذلك
