When I was a boy, I used to throw stones at our palm trees, or he said at the palm trees of the Ansar. I was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, "Boy," and Ibn Kasib said in his version, he said, "My son, why do you throw stones at the palm trees?"I replied, "To eat."He said, "Do not throw stones at the palm trees. Eat from what falls beneath them."Then he wiped my head and said, "O Allah, fill his belly."
حدثنا محمد بن الصباح ويعقوب بن حميد بن كاسب قالا حدثنا معتمر بن سليمان قال سمعت ابن أبي الحكم الغفاري قال حدثتني جدتي
كنت وأنا غلام أرمي نخلنا أو قال نخل الأنصار فأتي بي النبي ﷺ فقال يا غلام وقال ابن كاسب فقال يا بني لم ترمي النخل قال قلت آكل قال فلا ترم النخل وكل مما يسقط في أسافلها قال ثم مسح رأسي وقال اللهم أشبع بطنه
Its isnad is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Jihad, chapter on those who say he may eat from what falls, hadith 2622, from the hadith of Mutamir, with this chain, and Tirmidhi graded it sahih, hadith 1288.Ibn Abu Hakam was not declared trustworthy by anyone except Tirmidhi, and Dhahabi did not know him, so he is unknown in status, as the author of Taqrib said.
