When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah, the people there were among the worst in giving fair measure. So Allah, glorified is He, revealed "Woe to those who give short measure" [Mutaffifin 83:1]. After that, they gave full measure.
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن بشر بن الحكم ومحمد بن عقيل بن خويلد قالا حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن واقد حدثني أبي حدثني يزيد النحوي أن عكرمة حدثه
لما قدم النبي ﷺ المدينة كانوا من أخبث الناس كيلا فأنزل الله سبحانه {ويل للمطففين} فأحسنوا الكيل بعد ذلك
Sourcing, its chain of transmission is hasan. Nasai narrated it in his Kubra, in Tafsir, Surah Mutaffifin, hadith no. 11590, from Muhammad bin Aqeel with this wording. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih in (Mawarid), no. 1770, as did Hakim, 2/33, and Dhahabi, and Busiri graded it hasan.
