Hakeem bin Hizam reported,

I said, "Messenger of Allah, a man comes asking me to sell him something I do not have. May I sell it to him?"He replied, "Do not sell what you do not possess."

Darussalam

[Its chain is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Sales, chapter: On a man selling what he does not possess, hadith no. 3503, from the hadith of Abu Bishr, and Tirmidhi graded it hasan, hadith no. 1232, and Ibn Hazm graded it sahih. It has many routes reported by Ibn Jarud, hadith no. 602, and others, so the hadith is sahih.
