A man from among the Muslims saw in a dream that he met a man from the People of the Book, who said to him, "What an excellent people you would be, if only you did not commit shirk. You say, 'What Allah wills and Muhammad wills.'"This was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "By Allah, I had recognized this from you. Say instead, 'What Allah wills, then what Muhammad wills.'"Muhammad bin Abdul-Malik bin Abu Shawarib narrated to us, Abu Awana narrated to us, from Abdul-Malik, from Rabi bin Harash, from Tufayl bin Sakhbara, the maternal brother of Ayesha, from the Prophet ﷺ, a similar report.

أن رجلا من المسلمين رأى في النوم أنه لقي رجلا من أهل الكتاب فقال نعم القوم أنتم لولا أنكم تشركون تقولون ما شاء الله وشاء محمد وذكر ذلك للنبي ﷺ فقال أما والله إن كنت لأعرفها لكم قولوا ما شاء الله ثم شاء محمد حدثنا محمد بن عبد الملك بن أبي الشوارب حدثنا أبو عوانة عن عبد الملك عن ربعي بن حراش عن الطفيل بن سخبرة أخي عائشة لأمها عن النبي ﷺ بنحوه
Takhrij (a) [daif] See the following hadith. Bukhari related it in Tarikh al-Kabir 4/364 from the hadith of Sufyan, with the same wording.Takhrij (b) [Its chain of transmission is daif] Ahmad related it in 5/72, and others besides him, from the hadith of Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, with the same wording. Abdul-Malik is well known for tadlis, and I did not find an explicit statement that he heard it directly.
