I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The parent is the middle gate of Paradise. So guard your relationship with your parents, or let it go."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن عطاء بن السائب عن أبي عبد الرحمن أن رجلا أمره أبوه أو أمه شك شعبة أن يطلق امرأته فجعل عليه مائة محرر فأتى أبا الدرداء فإذا هو يصلي الضحى ويطيلها وصلى ما بين الظهر والعصر فسأله فقال أبو الدرداء أوف بنذرك وبر والديك
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول الوالد أوسط أبواب الجنة فحافظ على والديك أو اترك
Sourcing, its isnad is hasan. Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship, chapter on the merit of the parents' pleasure, no. 1900, from the hadith of Ataa on this same account, and he said, this hadith is sahih, and Abu Abdul-Rahman Sulami's name is Abdullah bin Habib. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Mawarid), no. 2023, as did Hakim, 2/197, 4/152, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
