A man from the tribe of Banu Fazarah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, my wife has given birth to a black boy."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Do you have any camels?"He replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What are their colors?"He said, "Red."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Is there any dusky one among them?"He said, "Yes, there are dusky ones among them."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "How did that come about?"The man replied, "Perhaps it is due to a strain in its ancestry."The Prophet ﷺ said, "And this child of yours, perhaps a strain in his ancestry has drawn him out."The wording is that of Ibn al-Sabbah.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Lian, hadith no. 1500, from Ibn Abu Shayba and others, with this chain. Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Divorce, chapter titled "When one insinuates the denial of paternity of a child," nos. 6847 and 5305, as did Muslim and others, through various chains from Zuhri.
