The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will guarantee me one thing, and I will guarantee him Paradise?"I said, "I will."He said, "Do not ask people for anything."After that, when Thawban was riding and his whip fell, he would not ask anyone to hand it to him. Instead, he would dismount and pick it up himself.
حدثنا علي بن محمد حدثنا وكيع عن ابن أبي ذئب عن محمد بن قيس عن عبد الرحمن بن يزيد
قال رسول الله ﷺ من يتقبل لي بواحدة وأتقبل له بالجنة قلت أنا قال لا تسأل الناس شيئا قال فكان ثوبان يقع سوطه وهو راكب فلا يقول لأحد ناولنيه حتى ينزل فيأخذه
[Its isnad is sahih]. Nasai reported it, 5/96, Zakat, The Merit of One Who Does Not Ask People for Anything, no. 2591, from the hadith of Ibn Abu Dhib with this chain, and it has a corroborating witness in Abu Dawud, no. 1643, and elsewhere, and its isnad is sahih, and Hakim, Dhahabi, and Munziri graded it sahih.
