The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not go out on the day of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten, and on the day of Eid al-Adha he would not eat until he returned.
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى حدثنا أبو عاصم حدثنا ثواب بن عتبة المهري
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان لا يخرج يوم الفطر حتى يأكل وكان لا يأكل يوم النحر حتى يرجع
[Its isnad is hasan] Reported by Tirmidhi, Jumuah, chapter on eating on the day of Eid al-Fitr before going out, no. 542, from the hadith of Thawab, and he said it is gharib. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Mawarid), no. 593, as did Ibn Khuzayma, no. 1426, and Hakim, 1/294, and Dhahabi and Ibn Qattan (Fasi) agreed. Thawab was deemed reliable by Ibn Main, according to the more correct view, and by Ibn Hibban and Ibn Shahin and others, and his teacher Abdullah is a well-known reliable narrator.
