The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If I live until next year, I will fast on the ninth day."Abu Ali said, Ahmad bin Yunus narrated it from Ibn Abu Dhib with the addition, "out of fear that Ashura might pass him by."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Fasting, chapter "On which day is Ashura observed?", hadith no. 1134, and in the Indian edition, 1/359, from the hadith of Waki with this wording. I say, in the Muhammad Fuad edition it appears as "from Abdullah bin Umayr" (perhaps he said "from Abdullah bin Abbas"), but the correct version is "from Abdullah bin Umayr from Abdullah bin Abbas" without any doubt, as it appears in the Indian edition. The Indian editions of the six books are, as far as I know, among the most meticulously produced editions in the world, and whoever wishes to verify this may consult them along with their own copies.
