The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you breaks his fast, let him break it with dates. If he cannot find any, then let him break it with water, for it is purifying."

قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا أفطر أحدكم فليفطر على تمر فإن لم يجد فليفطر على الماء فإنه طهور
Sourcing, its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Fasting, chapter on what one should break the fast with, hadith 2355, from the hadith of Asim through the same chain. Tirmidhi graded it sahih, hadith 695, as did Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, Abu Hatim, Hakim, and Dhahabi. Another portion of it will come later, hadith 1844.
