The Prophet ﷺ came out to them on a day he used to fast and called for a vessel and drank from it.We said, "Messenger of Allah, this is a day you used to fast."He replied, "Yes, but I vomited."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا يعلى ومحمد ابنا عبيد الطنافسي قالا حدثنا محمد بن إسحق عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب عن أبي مرزوق قال سمعت
أن النبي ﷺ خرج عليهم في يوم كان يصومه فدعا بإناء فشرب فقلنا يا رسول الله إن هذا يوم كنت تصومه قال أجل ولكني قئت
[Sahih] Ahmad narrated it (6/18) from Muhammad bin Ubayd, with the same wording, and Ibrahim bin Saad followed him in narrating it from him (6/21). Ibn Ishaq stated explicitly that he heard it directly, but he added Hanash into the chain, between Abu Marzuq and Fadala. This Hanash bin Abdullah is reliable, as stated in Taqrib and elsewhere, so the chain is hasan.Umayra bin Abu Najiya narrated it from Yazid with the same wording, similar to the narration of Ibrahim from Ibn Ishaq (Tabarani, 18/316). Abdullah bin Lahia and Mufaddal bin Fadala also followed them in narrating it (4/220), among others.
