Whenever someone in Hudhayfah's family died, he would say, "Do not announce his death to anyone. I fear it would be a death-announcement of the forbidden kind. With these two ears of mine, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid the public announcement of death."
[Its chain of transmission is daif]Reported by Tirmidhi, Funerals, chapter on the dislike of announcing death, hadith no. 986, from the hadith of Habib Absi, with this chain, and he said, hasan sahih.Habib bin Sulaym was deemed reliable by Ibn Hibban and Tirmidhi, and Dhahabi said in al-Kashif that his hadith is sound.
