They went out with the Prophet ﷺ to a meal to which they had been invited, and there was Husayn playing in the alley. The Prophet ﷺ went ahead of the group and stretched out his hands. The boy began to dart this way and that, with the Prophet ﷺ laughing along with him, until he caught him. He placed one hand under his chin and the other on the back of his head, kissed him, and said, "Husayn is from me and I am from Husayn. Allah loves whoever loves Husayn. Husayn is one of the grandsons."Ali bin Muhammad narrated to us, Waki narrated to us, from Sufyan, the same.

[Its chain is hasan] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Virtues, under the chapter on the virtues of his gentleness and his placing Hasan and Husayn before him, hadith 3775, from the hadith of Ibn Khuthaym in this wording, and he said, "It is a hasan hadith." Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith 2240, as did Hakim, 3/177, and Dhahabi. Busiri said, "This chain is hasan, its narrators are trustworthy" (Mawarid), and it has other routes of transmission as well.
