I said, "Messenger of Allah, give us a ruling concerning Bayt al-Maqdis."He said, "It is the land of gathering and resurrection. Go to it and pray there, for a single prayer in it is like a thousand prayers offered elsewhere."I said, "What if I am unable to travel to it?"He said, "Then send a gift of oil to be used for lighting its lamps. Whoever does so is like one who has visited it."
Sourcing, [its chain of transmission is daif] Ahmad narrated it (6/463) through the hadith of Isa bin Yunus, with this wording. Busiri graded it sahih, while Abdul-Haqq and Ibn Qattan graded it daif. Dhahabi said, "This hadith is extremely odd."Ziyad and his brother are both reliable, see Tahdheeb and other sources. The hadith also has a truncated route in Abu Dawud, no. 457, and elsewhere.Thawr transmitted it using the ambiguous formula "from" without clarifying that he heard it directly, and Uthman did not explicitly state that he heard it directly from Maymuna.
