When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose at night for tahajjud, he would say, "O Allah, to You belongs all praise. You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and all who are in them. To You belongs all praise. You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all who are in them. To You belongs all praise. You are the Sovereign of the heavens and the earth and all who are in them. To You belongs all praise. You are the Truth, Your promise is true, Your word is true, the meeting with You is true, Paradise is true, the Fire is true, the Hour is true, the prophets are true, and Muhammad is true. O Allah, to You I have submitted, in You I have believed, upon You I have relied, to You I have turned in repentance, by You I have disputed, and to You I bring my judgment. So forgive me what I have done before and what I will do, what I have concealed and what I have made public. You are the One who brings forward and You are the One who puts back. There is no god but You, there is no god other than You, and there is no power and no strength except through You."Abu Bakr bin Khallad al-Bahili narrated to us, Sufyan bin Uyayna narrated to us, Sulayman bin Abu Muslim al-Ahwal, the maternal uncle of Ibn Abu Najeeh, narrated to us, having heard Tawsa report from Ibn Abbas who said, When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose at night for tahajjud, and he mentioned something similar.
حدثنا هشام بن عمار حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن سليمان الأحول عن طاوس
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا تهجد من الليل قال اللهم لك الحمد أنت نور السموات والأرض ومن فيهن ولك الحمد أنت قيام السموات والأرض ومن فيهن ولك الحمد أنت مالك السموات والأرض ومن فيهن ولك الحمد أنت الحق ووعدك حق وقولك حق ولقاؤك حق والجنة حق والنار حق والساعة حق والنبيون حق ومحمد حق اللهم لك أسلمت وبك آمنت وعليك توكلت وإليك أنبت وبك خاصمت وإليك حاكمت فاغفر لي ما قدمت وما أخرت وما أسررت وما أعلنت أنت المقدم وأنت المؤخر لا إله إلا أنت ولا إله غيرك ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بك حدثنا أبو بكر بن خلاد الباهلي حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة حدثنا سليمان بن أبي مسلم الأحول خال ابن أبي نجيح سمع طاوسا عن ابن عباس قال كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا قام من الليل للتهجد فذكر نحوه
Bukhari related it in the chapter on Tahajjud, section on tahajjud at night, hadith no. 1120 and elsewhere, and Muslim in the chapter on the prayer of travelers, section on the prayer and supplication of the Prophet at night, hadith no. 769, from the hadith of Sufyan through this route, and it has other chains as well.
