Reported as a tradition traced to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Whoever goes to his bed intending to rise during the night and pray, but sleep overcomes him until morning, will have recorded for him what he intended, and his sleep will be a charity granted to him from his Lord."
[Sahih mawquf]. Nasai transmitted it, 3/258, Qiyam al-Layl, chapter on one who goes to his bed intending to pray at night but falls asleep, hadith 1788, and Ibn Khuzayma, hadith 1172, and others besides them, from the hadith of Husayn al-Jufi transmitting it this way. Hakim and Dhahabi graded it sahih according to the criteria of both Bukhari and Muslim, 1/311. The trustworthy Muawiya bin Amr contradicted him and transmitted it from Zaida this way, but as mawquf. Bayhaqi, 3/15, and others transmitted it likewise.Amash, previously mentioned at hadith 178, and Habib, previously mentioned at hadith 383, are both mudallis narrators, and they used the ambiguous form "an." Jareer transmitted it from Amash from Habib from Abda from Zirr bin Hubaysh from Abu Darda, as mawquf.Ibn Khuzayma transmitted it in his Sahih, 2/197, hadith 1175, with a sahih chain, from Abda from Zirr, or Suwayd, from Abu Dharr, or Abu Darda. His strongest impression regarding the two of them is that it was the latter, transmitting it this way, as mawquf, and it is sahih.
