When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina, the people rushed out to meet him, and it was announced, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived." I went out among the crowd to look at him. When I clearly saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I knew that his face was not the face of a liar.The first thing he said was, "People, spread peace, feed others, pray during the night while people are sleeping, and you will enter Paradise in peace."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد وابن أبي عدي وعبد الوهاب ومحمد بن جعفر عن عوف بن أبي جميلة عن زرارة بن أوفى
لما قدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة انجفل الناس إليه وقيل قدم رسول الله ﷺ فجئت في الناس لأنظر إليه فلما استبنت وجه رسول الله ﷺ عرفت أن وجهه ليس بوجه كذاب فكان أول شيء تكلم به أن قال يا أيها الناس أفشوا السلام وأطعموا الطعام وصلوا بالليل والناس نيام تدخلوا الجنة بسلام
[Sahih] Reported by Tirmidhi in the chapter on the description of the Day of Resurrection, chapter on the hadith "Spread the greeting of peace" etc., no. 2485, from Muhammad bin Bashshar with this wording, and he said, sahih.
