By the One who took his soul, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not die until most of his prayer was performed while seated. The dearest of deeds to him was the righteous deed that a servant maintains consistently, even if it be small.
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن أبي إسحق عن أبي سلمة
والذي ذهب بنفسه ﷺ ما مات حتى كان أكثر صلاته وهو جالس وكان أحب الأعمال إليه العمل الصالح الذي يدوم عليه العبد وإن كان يسيرا
[Its chain is sahih]. Nasai reported it: 3/222, Qiyam al-Layl, the chapter on the prayer of one who sits during... etc., no. 1655, 1656, from the hadith of Abu Ishaq, from Abu Salama, with this wording, and he made explicit the fact of direct hearing from the transmitter.
