The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray the two rakahs before the dawn prayer as though the call to prayer were ringing in his ears.
Bukhari reported it in the chapter on Witr, section on the times of Witr, no. 995, and Muslim in the chapter on the prayer of travelers, section on the night prayer being performed two rakats at a time with Witr as one rakat at the end of the night, no. 749(b), from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd, with the same wording.
