We used to prevent our young women from going out on the day of Eid. Then a woman came and stayed at the palace of Banu Khalaf, so I went to her. She related that her sister's husband had gone on twelve military expeditions with the Prophet ﷺ, and her sister had been with him on six of them. She said, "We used to tend to the sick and treat the wounded."She said, "Messenger of Allah, is there any harm if one of us does not have an outer garment, that she should not go out?"He replied, "Let her companion clothe her with part of her own outer garment, so they may witness the good and the supplication of the believers."Hafsah said, When Umm Atiya arrived, I went to her and asked her, "Did you hear such and such?"She replied, "Yes, by my father." She seldom mentioned the Prophet ﷺ without saying, "By my father."She said, He commanded that the young unmarried women, those kept in seclusion, should go out, or he said, the young unmarried women and those in seclusion. Ayub was uncertain which. And the menstruating women as well, but the menstruating women should keep away from the place of prayer, and they should witness the good and the supplication of the believers. She said, So I said to her, "The menstruating women?"She replied, "Yes. Does not the menstruating woman attend Arafat, and attend such and such, and attend such and such?"
