The people were struck by a drought during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. While the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the sermon one Friday, an Arabi stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, our wealth has perished and our families are hungry. Pray to Allah for us."He raised his hands, and we could not see a single wisp of cloud in the sky. By the One in whose hand is my soul, he had not lowered them before clouds gathered like mountains. Then he did not step down from his pulpit before I saw the rain trickling down his beard ﷺ.It rained on us that day, the next, the day after, and the one following, until the next Friday. Then that same Arabi stood up, or perhaps another man, and said, "Messenger of Allah, the buildings are collapsing and the property is drowning. Pray to Allah for us."He raised his hands and said, "O Allah, around us and not upon us." He would not point his hand toward any part of the clouds without it parting, until Madinah became like an open clearing. The valley of Qanat ran with water for a month, and no one came from any direction without speaking of the abundant rains.
حدثنا إبراهيم بن المنذر قال حدثنا الوليد بن مسلم قال حدثنا أبو عمرو الأوزاعي قال حدثني إسحاق بن عبد الله بن أبي طلحة
أصابت الناس سنة على عهد النبي ﷺ فبينا النبي ﷺ يخطب في يوم جمعة قام أعرابي فقال يا رسول الله هلك المال وجاع العيال فادع الله لنا فرفع يديه وما نرى في السماء قزعة فوالذي نفسي بيده ما وضعها حتى ثار السحاب أمثال الجبال ثم لم ينزل عن منبره حتى رأيت المطر يتحادر على لحيته ﷺ فمطرنا يومنا ذلك ومن الغد وبعد الغد والذي يليه حتى الجمعة الأخرى وقام ذلك الأعرابي أو قال غيره فقال يا رسول الله تهدم البناء وغرق المال فادع الله لنا فرفع يديه فقال اللهم حوالينا ولا علينا فما يشير بيده إلى ناحية من السحاب إلا انفرجت وصارت المدينة مثل الجوبة وسال الوادي قناة شهرا ولم يجئ أحد من ناحية إلا حدث بالجود
